SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans Available in Florida Following Secretary of Agriculture Disaster Declaration for Tropical Storm Isaac

ATLANTA - The U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that federal economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private non-profit organizations of all sizes located in Florida as a result of the excessive rain, flooding and Tropical Storm Isaac on August 25 - 28, 2012.

This SBA’s disaster declaration includes the following counties: Broward, Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Osceola, Palm Beach, Polk and Saint Lucie in Florida.

 

LAKELAND, Fla. (October 11, 2012) –The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Thursday estimated the Florida citrus crop will increase about 5 percent to 154 million boxes during the 2012-2013 season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Florida tomato farmers may increase their yields by adding sulfur to their soil before planting, according to a University of Florida study published in the current issue of the journal HortTechnology.

LAKELAND, Fla. (October 1, 2012) – Florida Citrus Mutual thanked the U.S Department of Agriculture today after the agency announced it awarded a $9 million grant to help support citrus research.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to advance research into citrus greening so we can save our $9 billion industry,” said Michael W. Sparks, executive VP/CEO of Florida Citrus Mutual. “I must commend Secretary Vilsack for his leadership on this issue and understanding that the key to beating this insidious disease lies in the laboratory.”

LAKELAND, Fla. (September 28, 2012) – Florida citrus production costs are the highest in history and could continue to climb as growers battle exotic diseases.
