Volunteers needed for final days of Agri-Fest

Monday, February 21st, 2011

I just received a reminder from Polk County Farm Bureau about the last week of the 23rd Annual Agri-Fest.  Here’s what they had to say:

The 23rd annual Polk County Agri-fest is in full swing! We still need a few volunteers on Thursday, February 24th and Monday, February 28th.  If you have not signed up to volunteer, please check your calendars and let us know if you can volunteer for one of these days (8:30am-12:00pm).

Agri-fest provides an opportunity for Polk County’s 4th Graders to learn about our diverse Agriculture Industry. Throughout this ten-day field trip, more than 6,150 students and their teachers will explore interactive exhibits and attend hands-on workshops on citrus, beef cattle, phosphate, blueberries, horticulture, forestry and water conservation. Volunteer opportunities include group leaders, citrus station kitchen assistants, and station helpers. This event is held at the UF/IFAS Polk County Extension Service complex, located at 1702 Hwy 17 South, Bartow, FL 33830.

To contact volunteer or get more information, call PCFB at (863) 533-0561 ext. 1.  To read a press release about the record breaking student attendance of Agri-Fest, click here.

I just received my reminder for Agri-Fest

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

I’m so excited for the 23rd Annual Polk County Agri-Fest next week!  I’ll be heading out there next Tuesday to help Polk County’s 4th graders learn about our diverse agriculture industry.  Just in case you haven’t heard, the last week to get involved is February 22nd – 25th and the 28th.
Over 6,000 students attend annually, and this is a great opportunity for them to learn about agriculture in a hands-on, interactive way.
Some of the exhibits included for students at Agri-Fest will be citrus, beef cattle, phosphate, beekeeping, blueberries, horticulture, forestry, and water conservation.
If you haven’t volunteered already, then I hope you’ll make some time to get out there and lend a helping hand. I’m sure volunteers are always in need, and this is sure to be a rewarding opportunity for both the volunteer and the student!
For more information, you should contact the Polk County Farm Bureau office at 863-533-0561 ext 1 or e-mail info@pcfb.org.
